When I was in school, the American flag meant
something. There were never any laws to protect
the flag. The feelings we had for the flag and
what it stood for was in our hearts. We treated
it with reverence. It was sacrosanct like a
piece of sacred cloth.
Adlai E. Stevenson Jr. once said, “Patriotism
is not a short and frenzied outburst of emotion
but the tranquil and steady dedication of a
lifetime.”
If the feelings we had then were present now,
our representatives would not have to stand on
the floor of the Senate and Congress and pass
laws to defend the flag. That angers me. It
should anger you as well. That is the reason I
am asking for your help. I need you
to join me to help stop the political divide
that has permeated throughout America. In the
introduction to “Where Did My America Go?” I
wrote, “The left hates and the right debates. It
is time to stop the hating and debating and work
together.”
That is why I want you to e-mail
every Senator, Congressional Representatives and
Supreme Court Justice the following message,
every time you find yourself screaming at the
radio or television. “I
am mad as hell and I want my America back.” If
we do it enough they will soon get the message.
