“Don’t Move My Cheese.”
Vol. 4 Issue 10
“The
Problem Is They Don’t Know The Problem.”
That is the title of a book
a friend of mine Robert Sandelman authored.
He established the first sales
promotion agency in the U.S. He had an
unusual profession. He was never
involved in the planning stages of any major
marketing project. However,
he was called in afterwards to establish why
certain products were not
selling.
An example was cheese in a pressurized
can that squeezed out like
toothpaste. It wasn’t selling because Kraft,
who developed it, displayed it
in supermarkets on the refrigerated shelves.
No one would buy cheese in a
can that was sitting next to nice fresh
sliced cheese. Realizing that it did
not have to be refrigerated, he told Kraft
to move it to the cracker aisle and
sell it next to Ritz Crackers. “Stop selling
it as cheese and sell it as a
cheese cracker spread.” Bingo! It started to
fly off the shelves.
Once you isolate the problem the solution
is easy. So, too, in politics you
have to isolate the problem. With that in
mind, I tried to construe what the
Democrats’ problem will be if President
Obama rams the health care bill
through the Senate and Congress with the
nuclear option. What will that do
to the Democrats who want to be in power
eternally now that their savior is
in the White House?
The Democrats, now the majority party in
the Senate, need 60 votes to end
the debate and stop a Republican filibuster.
However with the untimely
death of Massachusetts Senator Edward (Ted)
Kennedy they are now down
to 59. There is also the possibility that
some moderate Democrats might
not support health care legislation without
some Republican support on
board. They don’t want to go it alone.
Sounds like two children arguing
with their mother, “I wasn’t the only one
who messed up my room.”
So under the reconciliation rule of the
Senate, Democrats are discussing the
option of passing a Senate bill with a
simple majority of 51 votes.
The procedure has been used on occasion in
the past. Republicans used it
to pass Bush’s tax cuts in 2003 and the
Democrats to pass President
Clinton’s budget during his first term in
office.
Each provision under reconciliation must be
correlated to the budget, which
by all indications will complicate the job
of passing any health care
renovation. It would be a risky and bold
move for the Democrats. However,
it might be better than risking a major
defeat for Obama.
Ross Baker, a political science professor at
Rutgers University believes, “The
Democrats are willing to risk it. The stakes
are just too high. The idea of
ending the 111th Congress without any result
on health care at all is
unthinkable for the Democrats.’’
As of this writing, President Obama’s
approval rating has dropped to 42%.
Only two other presidents approval ratings
dropped that low in the first 245
days in office. Gerald Ford, when he
pardoned Richard Nixon and Bill
Clinton, when he approved gays in the
military. I can only imagine how low
it will go if “Obamacare” is passed.
So as Robert wrote, “The problem is they
don’t know the problem,”
However, they will soon figure it out. The
Democratic Party knows forcing
“Obamacare” on the American people will
probably cost them the House and
Senate in 2010 and possibly the presidency
in 2012. With that in mind,
what is their solution to remedy the
problem. They have to move the
cheese or in this case the votes.
Here is the next major bill that will
spill forth from the likes of Nancy Pelosi
and Harry Reid that they will try to ram
down our throats. Amnesty!
They will attempt to pass an immigration
amnesty bill to give illegal
immigrants citizenship in time to vote in
the next election. Fifteen-million
new voters who will be indebted to the man
from Kenya.
He will have, by that time, given them
health care insurance, citizenship
and then the right to vote. I believe they
call that a “quid pro quo.”
“Mark my words,” as Joe Biden once said,
as soon as Obamacare passes
(and I pray it doesn’t), the next battle
lines will be drawn around amnesty.
If that happens they will continue to
bankrupt the country with their
socialist entitlement programs and tax us to
death.
Supply Side Economics is simply
trickledown economics. Cut taxes to
businesses they keep more of their profits,
reinvest in new products and
create more jobs. It is a vicious cycle
isn’t it. [My sarcasm]
Tax Americans beyond their capacity,
small businesses fold their tents and
no new jobs are created. If that happens
and, “Mark my words,” it will,
Obama will have created a new economic
principle. “Trickle Up Poverty.”
He will then have his way, “Equality.”
Everyone will be poor.
So my suggestion is, now that you know
the problem the solution is very
simple; stock up on all the canned cheese
and crackers you can, because if
“Obamacare” passes that is all you may be
able to afford to eat.
And that is my opinion,
